Father's Day

This was a pretty laid back day as the man of our house would have it. The girls and I made a breakfast of jumbo blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, and ham with a little OJ. We served him breakfast in bed and headed off to church to give daddy a little "quiet time." I hope he enjoyed it because that was it for the day! In the afternoon we did some things around the house, took naps, and got ready for dinner out. Yes, again! There weren't as many jewels for this meal but some cute girls in cute coordinating outfits. Happy Father's Day Noah! We love you!

Kid sushi

Simply Thai in Elon serves sushi along with some wonderful Thai dishes. The atmosphere is very contemporary. It is a perfect fit for a college town! At least we hope so since we like to dine there. We had a coupon and that was the only excuse we needed. Savanna decided she wanted to sit outside. It was late enough that the heat was bearable. So we had the entire patio to ourselves! Don't know if it was the heat or the kids that kept it our own private dining room but it worked. We ordered a California roll (imitation crab, cukes, and avocado) and something fun for the adults. Savanna was insistent on trying the sushi and using the chopsticks. I am so proud of this girl.....she defeated the chopsticks for a few bites of her sushi. When the waitress came back she ordered more "kid's sushi." Sadie enjoyed the insides of the sushi but for now we will wait on the whole piece for her. Now we know what to order next time we eat sushi!

Fashionistas

I had to capture this on camera for all to see! We were headed out to dinner at our local favorite Thai restaurant, a place the girls have not been yet.(More on that to come.) They decided to get dolled up for the occasion. Savanna has a plethora of jewelry and Sadie knows where to find it! Please notice the coordination going on with Sadie's outfit-------hearts on the dress and the shoes. Then no outfit is complete without a "book", that is a pocket book to the rest of us. She loves the new style of silly bands. For those unfamiliar, they are bracelets that keep certain shapes when they are not on your arm. These, I might add, are Carolina shapes and she puts all 20 on at once. Amazing!

Savanna is sporting an outfit of her own creation, a pink skirt and her Minnie Mouse shirt. Hers too is complete with a pocket book containing her cell phone and one of her dog buddies. This particular phone was used at dinner to have a conversation with a friend from school. If only I could express the tone in her voice during that conversation about I don't know what.

Wheee!!!!

The playset the girls got for Christmas has finally found a home......in our backyard! The guys came to install it this morning and spent the entire morning constructing our playground in the backyard. Savanna says that we don't have to go to the park anymore but I think we will do some of both. The swings are the biggest hit thus far but I have a feeling the slide will get its share of use as time goes on. Sadie is in the big girl swing and repeatedly says "high mommy, Sadie high." She wants to do what her big sister does. She did fall out but she wasn't going very high so all is well. I believe this playset is going to get a lot of use at our house in the next several years!

Paris

We didn't make it to France but got a little taste of the atmosphere of Paris at a park in Greensboro. The girls loved petting the dogs we met. There was a poodle parade just as we arrived so we met and talked to every dog owner we could. Savanna has really caught on to dog etiquette and safety. She asks before petting and tells them all about Abby. There were other dogs there besides poodles and one happened to be a chocolate lab. Savanna made friends and as we were saying good bye Sadie calls out "bear." It was a big dog but every time she saw it she called out "bear." There were activities for the kids and artists along the sidewalks, musicians, and a woman on stilts. The stilts freaked Sadie out and Savanna was "sweated" so we didn't see much of her. It was a fun day in Paris!

Bookini

There was a break in the rain with a lot of heat and humidity today. Our answer was to bring out the blow up pool and PLAY. The girls had spent the night with Donna last weekend and got new bathing suits to play in her pool. Well, Savanna chose a new "bookini" or bikini to the rest of us. She was so excited to wear it she didn't notice how small the pool was. The girls had a great time staying cool in the backyard!

Adjusting

I must admit that I was having a hard time leading up to our move. I love that cute little house and all of the memories that surrounded it! It was our first house, where we brought our baby's home from the hospital, and a place that we held our children's birthday parties and family gatherings. It is also the place where we felt comfortable...we knew our neighbors and all of their dogs. BUT our need to spread out was becoming more urgent therefore the house hunt was on. We found our new house on our own by attending, yes, a couple of open houses here without our realtor. When we had an offer on our house this is the one we kept coming back to. Here we are a week later and I am already feeling like this is "home". After all, this is where the most special people in my life are. This is not to say that one of us doesn't drive by the old house almost daily. Savanna is having a hard time adjusting but most days is ok with our new house. I asked her what she liked best about our new house and she said the upstairs and that Sadie is nicer at the new house. What can we say about that? Sadie seems to feel at home here too. She loves the playroom/sunroom and of course the kitchen. These are the two rooms where she spends most of her time playing and eating. Those are her favorite things to do!

Moving on up

I thought about documenting this process daily but that didn't happen so here is a quick recap of the most exhausting experience of our lives thus far. I do feel confident in saying that this trumps having a newborn or the first trimester of pregnancy (the other most exhausting experiences of my life)! We rented our current house for a few days to take our time moving in....the hubby and I were up into the wee hours of the morning all of last week getting things packed, thrown away, and cleaned up. So much for a leisurely move! We had a couple of little "helpers" and some big "helpers" along the way and we finally got it ALL out of our "old house." Even the dining room table and high chair had been moved so on the last morning we had breakfast on the floor in our old dining area. Our new house is slowly feeling like home as we change paint colors and arrange our belongings to make it feel like home. We are already enjoying the extra space and layout of our new abode.

Boo Boo

We knew that Sadie would be the first of our children to need to go to the emergency room. She is our adventurous one and the least cautious of the 2. A couple of weeks ago she fell on some brick stairs and put a tiny hole in the back of her head. It sounds worse than it was but as parents we must be sure when it comes to head injuries! Off to Lexington Memorial Hospital we went at 10pm. We were leaving a gathering, saying our goodbyes and everything when Sadie decided to head back inside the house. She didn't make it all the way inside. After 5 hours in the emergency room, the doctor cleaned it off and put some neosporin on it then sent us on our way. Can you believe that baby was awake the entire time? We were glad to have her awake until we made sure that there was nothing going on internally but thought that by midnight or so she would have been sound asleep. Neither of our girls want to miss out on anything! She hasn't slowed down a bit and even points to her leg when you ask her to show you her boo boo. The leg was her first real scrape. At least no broken bones or stitches yet!

For the fun of it

I must elaborate on our trip to Putt Putt. Please notice that Sadie is following in Savanna's footsteps with her fashion statements. She kept those beads on the entire afternoon! We played a couple of holes and she tried to hit the ball but in the end discovered she got better results by just dropping the ball in the hole. Then she found that the obstacles on the course were removable. Therefore, the metal objects used to make the hole more difficult became Sadie's entertainment while the rest of us played golf. Savanna enjoys the game which she discovered at the beach last year with John. She has a good time but still doesn't like the fact that on the last hole your ball is GONE. It is quite disappointing for a 4 year old who is really enjoying herself. Arcade games were a good distraction and a convenient next step. She made her momma proud by choosing a treat for herself and one for Sadie with her tickets. It is a nice reminder, on mother's day especially, that you are doing a good job with your children! Savanna is the world's best big sister! Our realtor even recently commented on what a good big sister she is.

Breakfast in bed

We don't take pictures before 10am so there is no documentation for MY mother's day feast but I must tell you all about it. Noah is the only one here that can make an omelet. Lucky for me, he whipped up a steak, spinach, and cheese omelet with a side of strawberries and juice. YUMMY!! The best part was that I got breakfast in bed 2 other mornings that week. Savanna brought me a banana one day and then a lemon the other. While I love fruit, I had to pass on the lemon. We were out of other appropriate items! I was scolded for getting up too early one morning for I woke before she could bring me ANOTHER meal in bed. It was fun while it lasted!!!!

I must backtrack a little to describe my morning to sleep in, another wonderful perk of mother's day. As diligent as Noah was to keep everyone away it didn't work. Savanna was the first to enter at 6:30am though she easily returned to bed for another hour or so. Abby then entered as soon as everyone else was up. Dogs are definitely creatures of habit because she knows who feeds her. Unfortunately she doesn't recognize mother's day! Although she laid quietly beside the bed waiting for me. Noah got Abby out but not 10 mins. later here comes Sadie. I can hear her coming because she does NOT walk quietly. She is always in a hurry, strutting her stuff to get where she is going. After all of my visitors I did get a little more sleep only to awake to a wonderful breakfast in bed.

The rest of our day was quite fun as well. We headed over to Putt Putt where everyone played an entire game then headed inside for a few arcade games. It's not as fancy as the beach but we all played for $4. That is a pretty good deal for a family outing where everyone had fun!

Mother's Day Brunch

We have taken on hosting a Mother's day activity at our house for the last few years. It is nice to be able to honor our mothers and grandmothers who love us so much! The girls eat it up too! This year Savanna decided she would like to do a brunch so we moved the fun to Saturday. She and Sadie helped make the trifle for dessert and as always, provided the afternoon entertainment. Sadie played so hard she willingly took a good nap. It was our last gathering in our first charming, little house. I had a moment but there will be plenty more memories to be made in our new beautiful home. While I reminisced, my sweet hubby took both girls shopping at the Teeter for MY mother's day treat. Savanna can't keep a secret so I knew they were working on breakfast in bed. I got precious pink daisies and cupcakes upon their return but the best was yet to come.
